Village Well Ride Day 16: Bandon to Golden Beach, OR

We started the day with some fish tacos at the pier in Bandon. After pushing ourselves a bit too much on day 14, we were thinking more about fuel for the ride, and as cycling fuel goes, it’s hard to beat fish tacos. They were delicious!

After weaving along some coastal backroads in Bandon, we eventually merged with Highway 101 for most of the day. It started out as a particularly loud day, with shipping trucks and logging trucks being the norm. But once we got past Port Orford, things improved considerably. The stretch of Highway 101 south of Port Orford is gorgeous, weaving in and out of coastal views and dense forests. At a certain point, the views gave way to dense fog, but the riding was still quite good. The traffic was minimal and the shoulders were mostly friendly. We ate a late lunch at a rest stop near the ocean, and then we cruised into Gold Beach well before dark. It was yet another satisfying day of cycling.
