In sum, the 29 articles released in those pages concentration the reader’s awareness on how one can increase the standard of chemistry educating and studying, selling the general public knowing of chemistry, deploying leading edge expertise in pedagogy perform and learn, and the price of chemistry as a device for highlighting sustainability concerns within the worldwide community.

Thus the formidable twin objective accomplished in those pages is at the one hand to foster advancements within the leaching and verbal exchange of chemistry—whether to scholars or the general public, and secondly to advertise advances in our broader realizing of the topic that might have optimistic knock-on results at the world’s voters and setting. In doing so, the e-book addresses (as did the convention) the forget suffered within the chemistry school room through matters hooked up to globalization, while it outlines how you can carry the topic alive within the school room by using leading edge technologies.

Chiu et al. 1007/978-94-007-4860-6_4, © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2013 35 36 L. Mammino abilities makes most students insurmountably shy toward participating in verbal interactions. In addition, the passive attitude acquired throughout pre-university instruction – often equating learning solely to passive memorization, without deeper reflection or engagement – makes the very concept of classroom interactions unfamiliar to most students, so that they find it difficult to come to acknowledge interactions as a component of the learning activity.

Similarly, there are some students who choose chemistry at the university level only to fulfill their degree requirements. However, compared with the research conducted on pure and applied chemistry, few studies have addressed the issue of teaching and learning chemistry within Malaysia specifically. It this author’s opinion that the exchange of information between the technical knowledge in chemistry and chemical education is crucial in fostering mutual understanding and appreciation. Thus, students who fail to enroll in chemistry courses, or fail to fully participate in mandatory chemistry courses, due to fear and anxiety miss an opportunity to become better citizens of the world.

The implementation details have been progressively optimized over the years, above all by increasing flexibility to facilitate adaptations to the characteristics of different student groups (characteristics that may differ both across courses and in relation to the changing attitudes and preparation of incoming groups of students from year to year). UNIVEN is a “historically black university” located in a poor rural region. It is thus an underprivileged institution mostly caring for underprivileged students.
