The main point from this is that our behaviour is not simply determined by the chemicals in our body. A much more complex process is clearly in operation (Stainton Rogers and Stainton Rogers, 2001). Thus while our immediate behaviour may be influenced by the levels of hormones in our body, the production of these hormones is also directly influenced by our behaviour.

As can be seen, for every year from 1995 to 2002, boys’ achievements in English do get progressively worse compared to girls at each key stage. 7 also provides some room for optimism given the modest increases in the performance of boys relative to girls for all three key stages over this period.
